Attracted by the Montpellier video game ecosystem, the company is moving from Arles to the Millénaire office center in Montpellier, where they plan to double their staff size.
Developing its own games
Smart Tale is a welcome addition to the area. Founded in 2016 by Charles Martini and Jonathan Marin, Smart Tale has begun a new chapter in its young history by moving to Montpellier. Until now, the company developed games for other studios, notably Eden Games and Microids. Now, it’s time to take the next step.
“We need to grow in order to both handle the projects that we have already signed and to develop our own games,” says Charles Martini, whose company benefits from 190,000 € in support from the Occitanie Pyrénées-Méditerranée Region to support diversification.
Montpellier, a source for talents
The company is planning to hire about a dozen people by the end of 2021. In particular, they are looking for experienced developers and an artistic director. Their three-year goal is to increase the studio’s staff size from 25 to 50 people.Smart Tale will move into its new offices in September 2021. “Montpellier is a stronghold for video games, and the local assistance offered to studios is particularly effective. In addition, the Montpellier talent pool will enable us to hire people with the senior profiles we need.”
Exemplary mobilization
Everything went fast for Smart Tale’s relocation. The Montpellier Métropole Business Establishment Department took care of finding the office space. At the same time, Montpellier BIC got involved to host Smart Tale with early incubation for the company they plan to create to become an actor on the market for augmented reality platform games.“As soon as we decided to move to Montpellier, all the local teams mobilized to help meet our needs,” adds Charles Martini.
