Information mise à jour le 16/12/19

Mission accomplished for Montpellier Créathon! Held on November 23, this high point of the Social Cup – French competition for social entrepreneurs in the 18 to 30 age range – helped spark green and solidarity-oriented startups.

Managing waste from public works sites, improving handling of sexual aggression victims, bringing restaurants and local producers together, creating connected garbage cans for sorting...

Six projects offering social and environmental utility were developed by 25 participants working in teams during the latest Créathon organized by the Social Cup in partnership with Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole.

For the entire day, young entrepreneurs were guided by managers and mentors, including Adèle Perez, a coach at Montpellier BIC: “In particular, we helped them ask themselves the right questions while remaining focused on user needs.” This collective brainstorming session represents one of the three steps in the Social Cup, launched by Makesense, an association that supports social entrepreneurs alongside KissKissBankBank and La Banque Postale, now joined by GRDF.

“Workshops are first organized in twelve locations around France in order to raise as much awareness among young people regarding social entrepreneurship. The Créathon event encourages them to take action. A nationwide competition is then held, open to all project leaders from 18 to 30 years old,” summarizes Morgane Muracciole, Social Cup project manager at Makesense.

Gaining credibility within the Montpellier ecosystem

Following the “battle” to be held on February 6, 2020, twelve finalists each win a prize ranging from 500 to 4,000 euros, or incubation at Makesense. Last year, 157 projects were created or expanded thanks to this program. “Participation brought me exposure, partially thanks to a video that was broadcast on social networks, as well as credibility within the Montpellier entrepreneurial ecosystem and a financial award,” says Adeline Lefebvre, regional finalist in the 2019 Social Cup. The award helped her launch a startup, LoopEat, which created a consignment system to fight against disposable packaging in take-out meals.

“Montpellier BIC gave me access to contacts and communicated about the crowdfunding campaign that is expected to enable me to launch zero-waste meal delivery in 2020."

The Social Cup once again marks the start of great adventures in the economy of tomorrow!
