“We are here today to demonstrate the dynamism of MedVallée.”
At the Rendez-vous de l’Éco (“Economy Meetings”) event held on July 3 at the Cap Sigma facility on the Biopôle Euromédecine site, the tone was set by Hind Emad, Montpellier Métropole Vice President in charge of Economic Development and Digital Technologies.
The event focused on the Euromédecine district, which is growing under the influence of the MedVallée dynamism, complemented by the Montpellier-Grabels Zero Long-Term Unemployment Territory (TZCLD) initiative in the Hauts de Massane and La Valsière districts.
“Euromédecine is at the very heart of the MedVallée territory. We decided to leverage major established facilities in the fields of healthcare, the environment, and agriculture. This was a pivotal decision, as Montpellier had previously focused its expansion south towards the sea. Now, innovative productive activities that promote global health are developing here. Moreover, because the economy really only takes on meaning when it fully integrates social issues, the cities of Montpellier and Grabels have been working together for several months on an experiment to help long-term unemployed people find work through the national program TZCLD (Territory with Zero Long-Term Unemployment),” explained René Revol, mayor of Grabels and vice-president of Montpellier Métropole, delegate for the rational, ecological and solidarity-based management of water and sanitation, waste collection, sorting and recovery, as well as Zero Waste Policy.
There are a number of projects underway in the Euromédecine district. One of them is the creation of Biopôle 4, which will increase the floor space of the Biopôle Euromédecine facility from 10,500 m² to nearly 19,000 m². ”Work on Biopôle 4 will start in April 2026, with completion expected in 2027. We are currently marketing space for lease ranging from 3,500 m² to 4,500 m²,” said Jérôme Christol, Director of Economic Development at Altémed.
At the same time, Montpellier Métropole is moving ahead with Phase 2 of the Euromédecine 2 extension: the western sector. ”Ten hectares of land near the Grabels district of La Valsière will be developed. The site will feature 70,000 m² of surface area, including larger lots ranging from 4,900 m² to 15,000 m² of sub-dividable floor space, as well as a business park with 10,000 m² of floor space. We expect to start putting the properties on the market in 2026,” added Sébastien Patheron, regional director at Altémed.
Lastly, as part of the TZCLD initiative, the employment-focused company Hauts Val & Co will set up offices within the Euromédecine Biopôle complex. Aiming to create 200 jobs that meet the employment needs of local residents, this social and solidarity economy company will move into the ground floor of the Cap Sigma building in July to develop a corporate concierge service, points out Victor Delescluse, director of Hauts Val & Co. Montpellier Métropole endeavors to make the territory exemplary.
