Montpellier has moved up in the ICCA (International Congress and Convention Association) ranking of international conference destinations, climbing from 11th to 5th position in France, excluding Paris. This achievement reflects the area’s attractiveness for business tourism and conferences!

Internationally recognized, the ICCA ranking evaluates cities based on their ability to host conferences for international organizations. With its strong medical and scientific tradition, Montpellier benefits from a large pool of researchers, innovative companies, and cutting-edge infrastructure.

Montpellier has been known internationally for its medical school since the 12th century, and has a major university hospital as well as world-class research labs. With 2,700 researchers and France’s leading agricultural and agri-food competitiveness cluster – Agri Sud-Ouest Innovation – the area is also at the heart of an ecosystem that promotes innovation based on synergy built between the research and business worlds. Furthermore, numerous research departments work together at the Agropolis International research cluster, INRAE, CIRAD, IRD, CGIAR, and University of Montpellier.

The ranking also reflects Montpellier Métropole’s positioning in global health with the creation of Med Vallée, a world-class hub focusing on three major sectors: health, the environment, and agroecology.

With a commitment to sustainability, Montpellier offers excellent transportation links, with an international airport just 10 minutes from the city center, two train stations, and convention and exhibition centers within walking distance or accessible by public transportation, along with high-quality accommodations nearby. These ISO 20121-certified facilities attest to the area’s commitment to the environment. Montpellier Métropole is also showing its dedication by developing a sustainable tourism roadmap for 2030 to help shape the tourism of tomorrow.

With 300 sunny days a year, a Mediterranean setting, and rich cultural heritage, Montpellier is an ideal destination for conferences.
