Ateliers A+: corporate sponsor in Montpellier and partner in promoting the city’s outreach

Part of growing alongside a community is contributing to its success. Present in Montpellier for over 30 years, Ateliers A+ has, for the past two years, made corporate sponsorship a core commitment. Working alongside Montpellier Métropole and the City of Montpellier, the architecture firm participates in projects that foster culture, heritage, and a sense of community.

Founded in 1995 in Montpellier, Ateliers A+ has become a prominent economic player. The firm now employs a staff of 120 people, half of whom are architects, working alongside engineers, cost analysts, and construction managers. While its scope of operations now extends well beyond Montpellier, the firm's history remains deeply rooted in the local area.

“Ateliers A+ has grown alongside the city. Montpellier’s attractiveness is a showcase for us, and, in our own way, we also contribute to its influence in other locations. We have benefited from its energy, so it seems natural to us to want to offer something back to the local area.” Clément Rabourdin, partner architect and engineer

Contemporary art and sports have been part of Ateliers A+’s identity for many years. From exhibitions held at the firm to supporting sports teams in Montpellier, Nîmes, and Sète, the firm has always cultivated a commitment to promoting and fostering the very spirit that drives it. Two years ago, Ateliers A+ decided to take this a step further by formalizing its commitment through a collective philanthropy initiative.

Today, the firm supports several local cultural organizations, including the Montpellier Danse dance festival, Printemps des Comédiens theater festival, Folies d’O performing arts festival, and the Festival des Architectures Vives architecture festival. Since last year, it has also provided support to the Carré Sainte-Anne arts center.

“We were immediately drawn to the project to reopen the Carré Sainte-Anne. This venue is already an architectural masterpiece in its own right, and the preservation of architectural heritage is a cause that is close to our hearts. We were also impressed by a program focused on monumental, popular, and inclusive art. Hosting international artists here, such as JR and Jaume Plensa, is a wonderful way to shine a spotlight on Montpellier ,” explains Clément Rabourdin.

This approach resonates with the firm’s core mission, which incorporates art into the design of its architectural projects. Ateliers A+ has notably collaborated with artist Alain Clément on the Halle des Sports in Nîmes and with Hervé Di Rosa on the Palais des Congrès in Agde.

“A lot is happening in Montpellier, and we are delighted to play our part by supporting a rich and diverse cultural scene. It is inspiring to be part of this dynamic and to challenge ourselves, at every level, through projects that reflect who we are.” Anaïs Amadieu, partner architect

Philanthropy: a catalyst for cohesion and sharing

For Ateliers A+, philanthropy is not merely about providing financial support for projects of public interest. It is also a way to bring the firm's values to life internally and to open up new perspectives. The company invites both its employees and clients to experience performances and exhibitions, transforming these events into moments of shared experience and openness.

“For our teams and clients, it’s an opportunity to share collective experiences that engage everyone emotionally and invite them to reflect. It’s incredibly unifying,” explains Anaïs Amadieu.

This collective dimension is at the heart of the corporate philanthropy policy championed by Montpellier Métropole and City of Montpellier, who believe that forging connections with the socio-economic sphere enables projects to achieve even greater impact.

Since 2022, 92 corporate sponsors have helped raise €3 million to support local projects. Each year, about ten projects are proposed across four key areas: solidarity, youth, community well-being, and transition. Companies can contribute financially, but also through in-kind donations and expertise sharing. And contrary to popular belief, corporate philanthropy is not only for large corporations. Everyone can contribute at their own level, whether they are an SME, micro-business, or large corporation.

For Ateliers A+, corporate philanthropy creates a virtuous cycle in which supporting projects that bring Montpellier to life also helps enhance the attractiveness of an area from which the firm itself benefits. This philosophy aligns with that of Montpellier and Montpellier Métropole: to make corporate philanthropy a truly effective tool for promoting dialog between public and private stakeholders, thereby pooling energies and amplifying the impact of projects for the benefit of residents.
